MOBI
Mobipocket E-book
MOBI is an e-book format originally developed by Mobipocket SA in 2000, based on the PalmDOC format and extended with HTML content and metadata. Amazon acquired Mobipocket in 2005 and used the MOBI/AZW format as the basis for the Kindle ecosystem. While newer Kindle devices prefer AZW3/KFX, MOBI remains the most portable Kindle-compatible format for sideloading self-published or open-source ebooks from third-party sources.
