OpenType Font

OpenType is a cross-platform font format jointly developed by Adobe and Microsoft, first published in 1997 and standardized as ISO/IEC 14496-22. OTF fonts can contain either PostScript (CFF) or TrueType outlines and add a rich set of typographic features such as small caps, ligatures, swashes, and contextual alternates via the GPOS/GSUB tables. Because a single OTF file works on Windows, macOS, and Linux, it largely replaced the separate Windows and Mac versions of Type 1 and TrueType fonts.
